Description

The Beijing Guanting Wind Power Project is  a grid-connected 49.5 MW wind farm. The project has 33 wind turbines, each with capacity of 1.5 MW. It is the first wind farm in Beijing. This particular project is especially unique as it supplied green energy for the Beijing Olympic Games. Each year the project supplies the North China Power Grid (NCPG) with 93.65 GWh of electricity. The project reduces GHG emissions by 100,720 tCO2e per year by avoiding emissions from electricity generatd by grid-connected fossil fuel power plants, which previously dominated the energy supply to the North China Power Grid.

Location

The Guanting Wind farm is located about 70km northwest of downtown of Beijing in the south-eastern part of Huailai County, Hebei Province. The project covers an area of approximately twenty square kilometers. The nearest highway, the Jing-Zhang Highway is five km away from the project site.

Technology

The 49.5 MW Beijing Guanting Wind Power project uses power generation units selected because of their technological excellence and operational reliability. The total installed capacity of the project is 49.5 MW. The project consists of 33 units of 1.5 MW-per-unit wind power generators. Each of the 33 wind generators is connected to a 10kV generatrix via a transformer, which transforms the voltage from 690V to 35kV. The electricity is then transmitted via three 10kV loop-lines to the 110kV transformer substation.
